Boss & Co Book – Printed Proof Update
I have just had my copy of the draft printed book delivered and I know yours is on the way. As discussed on the phone, a similar printed proof of the Boss & Co. book has now been sent to you in the United States.
I wanted to provide some context ahead of its arrival. This is a printed proof rather than the final version, and its purpose is threefold.
Firstly, it allows us to review the book across a selection of paper stocks and finishes, so we can identify which best presents both the imagery and the text, and ultimately select your preferred option. Secondly, it gives me the opportunity to assess any design refinements, particularly in terms of layout and text positioning. Finally, it allows us to evaluate how the copy flows throughout the book in a printed format, ensuring it complements rather than dominates the imagery. It also provides a valuable opportunity to read the text in context, rather than on a screen.
My initial impressions are very positive, and I am extremely pleased with how the book is looking overall. I am particularly happy with how the design and copy work together. I feel it really shows the images off well and, in my opinion, the images are in no way overpowered by the copy.
Having now seen it in print, I am still undecided on the best paper stock. I am currently torn between two options, so it will be very interesting to hear which you prefer.
There is one key adjustment that will need to be made throughout. Due to the binding method, the gutter needs to be increased slightly, as some of the copy currently sits too close to the centre and in a few cases falls into it. This is a straightforward fix and I will action this on Monday. I wanted to bring it to your attention before your copy arrives.
In addition, the positioning of the Boss & Co. logo and book title on the cover needs to be adjusted so that it sits in the visual centre rather than the exact centre of the page. Again, this is a simple refinement and exactly the sort of detail the proofing process is designed to highlight.
Please let me know when your copy arrives next week. It may be with you earlier in the week, and you should have received tracking details from the courier.
Please also find below a short video of the unwrapping of the copy that arrived here this afternoon.
I very much hope you like the book draft when it arrives and I would greatly value your feedback. I just wanted to highlight the small points I have noticed, all of which will be resolved and are not an issue.
Best regards
Jeremy Pascoe
